EINDHOVEN AVANT-GARDE is an occasional collective founded by designers Tessa Koot and Niek van der Heijden and photographer Lisa Klappe.

With an individual viewpoint regarding their own work and design in general, the three members of ’Eindhoven Avant-Garde’ feel free to mix and sample each other’s concepts and ideas.

‘WE ARE WELCOME’ is an open invitation for opposites to attract:

Neo-kitch vs Classical, Dark vs Light, Geometrical shapes vs Organic forms, New vs Old and more……..

Recent works, photographs and handpicked design from featured designers, form the centre of a guided exhibition full of old fashioned craftmanship; headstrong and hands-on design.

Exclusively on show during Milan Design Week, with an official opening on Wednesday 10th of April

In a domestic setting full of contradicting treasures, new works are presented: furniture with a tropical slant by Tessa Koot, hands-on design for little and big boys by Niek van der Heijden, Darling Photographs by Lisa Klappe and curated works from guest designers: Akko Goldenbelt, Ben Hohmann, Michiel Martens & Roel de Boer, Frans Meijer, Dennis Parren, Etienne Reijnders, Karmen Saat, Grietje Schepers Tomm Velthuis and Erwin Zwiers.

The presentation is in collaboration with other designers and companies. This first 3D version of Connecting the Dots is the first of a serie of presentations that showcase recent developments for the Dutch design culture in an international context.

According to the selection committees of peers who assessed more than 650 projects for DDA, in 2012 the quality of the work is as high as ever. Apparently, even in these tough economic times and in spite of limited resources, Dutch designers are able to come up with the most interesting and surprising concepts. The aspiration is clearly visible in the designs of all 27 finalists.

The selection committee choose the CMYK lamp for its exciting interplay of lines that has an educational function with respect to the action of light. It is also a highly aesthetic object.

Divided into three main categories, the lamp was placed into the category ‘Autonomous Design‘, 27 designs in total will compete for the prizes. An international jury will decide who are going to carry off the awards. All winners will be announced at an official award ceremony on Sunday, October 21 during Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven. That same week, from October 20 through October 28, the work of all finalists will be exhibited together in a special exhibition.
